Why Kunekune Pigs?
Kunekunes really are perfect for the homestead. Whether you’re looking for a low input pig to grow out for meat, or just a family friendly animal that is super cute and easy on your land. The Kunekune pig originated in New Zealand and literally translates to “fat and round” in the Māori language. There was only an estimated 50 pigs in 1880, and after two were brought to the US in 1993, they are now thriving thanks to the preservation of the breed. The small, upturned noses of the Kunekune are part of the little-to-none rooting that you would expect from any other breed of pig. Kunekunes thrive on pasture and have a fine red, marbled meat due to their slower growing nature. These pigs are definitely the family favorite around here.
